Projects by Semester
Upper Extremity Px | Spinal Ox
During my first semester, I was able to learn about and make 3 different upper extremity prostheses for
the first time. I learned about the many different socket styles and the pros and cons between body
powered and myoelectric arms. I studied about spinal orthotics. I learned how to do a bivalve plaster cast
for a custom TLSO and even experienced being casted. I learned about COs all the way to CTLSOs and made my own custom Knight-Taylor TLSOs. Click on the Fall Year 1 Button above to see pictures of the
awesome projects I worked on during this semester.
Spring Year 1
Upper Extremity Ox | Lower Extremity Ox 1 | Lower extremity Px 1 (TT and below)
During this semester I learned about upper extremity orthoses and the importance of custom vs off the shelf devices. I made a tenodesis brace, a custom carpal tunnel brace, and a gauntlet style gutter splint for a boxers fracture. I learned about lower extremity orthoses and associated pathologies. I made a few pairs of FOs, an UCBL, a SMO, a solid ankle AFO and articulated AFO. Lastly I made 4 different TT prostheses. I learned how to make a custom pelite liner and used a classmate to make a mock SCSP style socket that was open in the bottom for them to slide their leg through. I made a TSB-TTPx for a patient that was a bilateral user, a TSB-TTPx for a patient with a very short residual limb with no patella and ligamentous laxity, and lastly a SCSP socket with TSB principles for a patient with very lax knee ligaments. Lower Extremity Ox 2 | Lower Extremity Px 2 (TF and up) | Applied Technology
I am currently in my first semester of my second year. So far I have completed a conventional metal AFO for my student partner with an assigned pathology of cauda equina. I have also learned how to do a conventional KAFO schema on one of my fellow classmates. Next up I am going to learn how to cast for a plastic KAFO with a student partner and set it up for their assigned pathology. Then our last plastic KAFO we will have patient models with involved limbs come in and we will cast and make them. For applied technology I will be working with a few of my classmates to create an apparatus or system for our patient to play sled hockey which will assist with her inability to have coordinated movements. TFPx projects will be added as I've completed them. Click on the Fall Year 2 Button above to check out some of my awesome projects from this semester.
