Fall Year 1 Projects

Transradial
Project 1
Transradial Prosthesis
This was the first time I had actually fit and fabricated an upper extremity prosthesis. We used pvc pipe to create the forearm and give us some adjustability rather than foaming on the forearm right away. We drape formed the socket. For this project I also sewed my own figure 8 harness for my patient and made a cable from scratch. I wanted to learn every part of the process.
Transradial
Myoelectric
Myoelectric Transradial Prosthesis
We learned how to do myosite testing and how to put together myoelectric components. I made a myoelectric prosthesis with a sensor speed hand a rotating wrist. This was the first time my patient had ever worn a prosthesis and after our fitting she pursued getting her first prosthesis. We even got to let her try the bebionic hand.
Simulated Transhumeral
Transhumeral Prosthesis
Due to the limited number of patient models with transhumeral amputations we created simulated transhumeral prostheses. We learned how to align elbows and set up harnessing. We also learned how different trimlines affect shoulder mobility and control. My partner had a lot of fun trying out the arm I made for her.
Conventional TLSO
Knight-Taylor
Custom spinal orthosis
For this project we used a led strip to get the contour of our patients body then we bent the aluminum to match to their anatomy. You can see my partner wearing her brace. We ran out of time in the course to finish adding straps to the brace.
Thermoplastic
TLSO
Custom TLSO
For this project we worked in groups to cast each other for custom TLSOs. We ended up using the cast of my body to fabricate a custom TLSO. The pictures show our mold modifications, casting of me and my cast of my partner.
Boston Brace
Module
Boston Brace Blueprinting
We got to pull our foam over mini scoliosis models. We then used an xray provided to us that we blueprinted to then translate that blueprint to the foam to model what our final Boston Brace would look like.
